As the spreading process of basic educational courses reformation, China attaches great importance to the juvenile physique as well as their healh conditions. The Juvenile Sunshine Physical Projet has been implemented all around the country and moreover, the school physical eucation set unprecedented store by the Educational Ddpartment. In such a positive atmosphere, physical educators should give more attention to the rural PE stutdy, the weak link of school physical education. With the application of survey, mathematical statistic, document data and other means, this research has made a careful survey and analysis of the PE condition of 922 rural juniel seconodary schools in north of Jiangsu Province, of which 228 schools are in Xuzhou, 170 in Huai'an, 230 in Yancheng, 132 in Lianyun'gang and 162 in Suqian. The result shows that in thses schools the insufficience of physical educators, of which the proportion of part-time physical teachere is higher than the ideal one; There is an imbalance of gender ratio in the physical teachers, of which the male teachers defenitely take a great majority; The young and middle-aged physical teachers take a leading position in the age structure which seems reasonable ; However, the dominance of juniel and secondary teaching title makes the professional title structure incline to a lower status; And the records of education show that physical teachers graduating from professional training college and regular college take a great majority of the PE teachers while the proportion of masters even doctors is unreasonable low. The physical teachers in these rural schools of the northern area of Jiangsu Province averag have more than 14 classes each week, hence, carry a higher teaching burden. The playground per person of rural juniel secondary schools is enough while the sports place per school is not enough; The sports apparatus per student are unadequate and laking in variety. The proportion of using PE teaching material is increasing; The extra-curricular sports activities each week are unadequate but the lasting time is reasonable; These schools hold competion each year, of which the project want variety; The track and field team and the basketball one compose a leading part in the sports teams; the majority of the physical educators in these schools are those of their own; The funds of physical education still need to be increased; The related books and reference materials are possibly enough, but the information means are not fully applied and the speed of renewing is relatively slow. Advices: 1. The departments of all levels responsible for education should attach greater importance to the school physical education and equalize PE classes as well as extra-curricular sports activities with other subjects. The PE classes and the extra-curricular sports activities should be made as an important index to evaluate the qualification of a school; 2. Put more funds to PE area to ensure the needs of sports space, appartus as well as sports training and competition in rural schools; 3. Improve the economical status and social influence of physical teachers.
