In recent decades, the higher education has been developing quickly in China. The marketing tendency of higher education becomes more distinct. Higher education in China is transforming from a government–leading pattern to a many–sided management pattern. Therefore, colleges and universities have involved themselves in the market competition as independent entities of artificial persons.Under this circumstance, for the sake of controlling finance, enhancing financial management, improving fund efficiency and accelerating interior management systems reform in colleges and universities, government, society and higher education department gradually and widely pay attention to ameliorating financial governance of China colleges and universities.The paper, firstly analyses the background of implement financial governance. Secondly, it demonstrates how to employ principal–agent theory, public accountability theory and stakeholder theory in colleges and universities to settle financial governance problems. Thirdly, it analyses its defects and the reasons for present financial governance measures in China colleges and universities Last but not least, the author systematically and comprehensively puts forward some advice of setting up financial governance systems to ameliorate financial management in China colleges and universities.
