Academies dating from the end of Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties Period are educational institutions different from governmental schools in ancient China. During the Shaoxing years of the Southern Song Dynasty, academies gradually developed and later came into blossom in present-day Guizhou area.Since the establishment of GuiZhou province, the Academic Education has gotten to faster development and tended to bloom.However, for a variety of reasons, the development of academic education in Guizhou was influenced by the development of political, economic and academic thoughts both in central plains and in the area of Guizhou. Therefore, the development of Guizhou academies in the Ming Dynasty bears the characteristics of Guizhou regional culture as well as the marks of the culture of central plains. As the carrier of the culture of central plains, the emergence and development of academies in Guizhou exert a far-reaching effect on the spread of the culture of central plains and on the promotion of the political and economic integration in Guizhou and central plains.The thesis consists of three chapters.Chapter one reviews the emergence and development of academic education in Guizhou, ranging from the origin of academies, survey of the development of Guizhou academies, to the reasons for their vigourous development in the middle of the Ming Dynasty.Chapter two introduces Guizhou academic education and its characteristics in the Ming Dynasty, mainly dealing with the constituents of education, the administrative methods and the distinguishing regional features of Guizhou academies.Chapter three analyses the profound influence of academic education on Guizhou regional culture in various aspects in the Ming Dynasty. For example, it satisfies the increasing demand for education in Guizhou, improves the level of general education of local ruling circles, pushes forward the changes of Guizhou regional culture and enrich its connotation.In brief, the thesis elaborates on the development thread and characteristics of Guizhou academies in the Ming Dynasty and the irreplaceable role they play in promoting the formation of Guizhou regional culture.The research on the development and the influence of Guizhou academic education in the Ming Dynasty can help us discern the development sequence of Guizhou history, grasp the development and changes of minor traditions under the influence of the major ones, and broaden the research field of Guizhou educational history. The thesis deals with the study of Guizhou academies in the Ming Dynasty, adopts research methods in history and comprehensively applies sociological and culturological theories and methods. Only in this way can we clarify the development thread of academies in Guizhou of the Ming Dynasty and explore the profound influence of Guizhou academies on Guizhou regional culture. That will be of some academic value not only to a deep research on minority nationalities in the southwest but to the enrichment of the research field of the educational history of minority nationalities. Meanwhile, due to the fact that the humanistic thought embodied in academic education remains rationally magnificent, the research is also of great practical significance.
