Development And Revelation Of The Function Of Scientific Researches In American Colleges And Universities

Innovation is the soul in the knowledge-based economy age. Universities have stepped into the center of society from edge as the important occasions of knowledge innovation. Universities have engaged in the scientific researches and the conversion of scientific productions; on the other hand, they are the basis of cultivating the talents with spirits of innovation and capability of practice and implementing the policy of "strengthening our country by talents". In recent years, knowledge innovation and cultivation of the creative talents have been considered as the principal assignment in colleges and universities of China in realistic background.Education is the basis of cultivating the talents, meanwhile the talents are the origins of scientific and technological development. The achievements gained by the colleges and universities in America in terms of scientific researches and talents cultivation are well-known through the world, which has contributed to the development of science and technology as well as economy in America. The scientific research productions and numerous talents with the ability of innovation exert a significant function, which makes the science and technology in America keep ahead through the world. Consequently recognizing the function distinctly of scientific researches in the colleges and universities of America would be helpful for the development of science and technology as well as economy in China to some extent. This paper probes into the development and status in quo of the function played by the scientific researches in American colleges and universities, and provides some referenced experience for the further development of the function exerted by the scientific researches in colleges and universities of China.This paper can be devided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background of thesis proposal and the significance of this research. The second chapter presents the historical development of the function exerted by the scientific researches in American colleges and universities. The status in quo of scientific researches in American colleges and universities has been analyzed in chapter three, and three characteristics of the scientific researches in American colleges and universities have been concluded as following: 1) the basic scientific researches have been paid more attention; 2) graduate students are the main force in the scientific researches; 3) the scientific researches involve multi- disciplines. In chapter four, on the basis of analysis of teaching and scientific research production gained in American colleges and universities, scientific researches and education of postgraduates, together with scientific researches and education of undergraduates, a conclusion that the scientific researches in American colleges and universities have contributed greatly to the cultivation of creative talents has been drawed. In the last one, on the basis of analysis of the scientific researches in colleges and universities of China, some revelations for reference have been brought forward by comparing with the merits of the scientific researches in American colleges and universities.
