Martial arts is a precious cultural heritage of Chinese people through long non-stop accumulation and enrichment. The movement of martial arts, as one of our great traditional physical events, is deep-rooted in Chinese traditional culture and attracts people's much attention with its own unique glamor. Due to its irreplaceable funtion of passing down the traditional culture, martials arts is on the list of required courses in physical education of university, and with other elementry, shares the responsibility of educating the students and teachers in both primary school and middle school. After entering the new century, people, with the wake of consciousness, have higher requirements of health and thus pay more attention to the physical education than ever before. With the return and extension of research in martial arts, more and more people focus on traditional physical events -"national treasure". Therefore, more and more issures and phemomena are found out and also bring out the reflection of peopel involved in physical education.With the approach of the 2008 Olympic Games, Chinese traditional events increasingly appear on public stage. However, owing to the influence of habits and customs, different traditional events attract different attention in central and western part. Due to the geographical restriction, the subjects of this paper are mainly from the Guangxi Automomous Region, in which the traditional martial arts is long-standing and highly-emphasized. Therefore, in order to adjust to the new social needs, it is very meaningful and practical to reform and develop the martial arts education of Guangxi physical education through making use of local resourses. The investigation reveals the issues in Guangxi martial arts education mainly focus on the disconnection between the teaching content and social needs as well as the teaching methods being old-fashioned and invarie. Undountedly, with deepening the reform of physical education, the presure is also on the increase in the reform of martial arts education.The subject of this paper is taken from the content of required martial arts course in physical education of Guangxi university. Using the biobliograghy and questionairs, this paper investigates and researches the betterment of course content and its combination, and finally puts forward new experimental system of course content in required martial arts. Its content is suggested including two parts, one part for theory and one part for practical skills. Here the theory part is mainly about general introduction to martial arts, the analysis of basical skills in Changquan, the organization and judgement in competition, the teaching methodology in martial arts, the knowledge of perceiving pictures in martial arts and some traditional physical culture of Guangxi's ethnic groups. The part for practical skills is based on basical movements and integrated movements, its content consisting of elementary movement sets and the basics in strength-conservation and spirit-refreshment, and some Guangxi local traditional Quanshu and traditional fit-keeping basics.According to social requirements for physical talents, this sketch about new content of required martial arts course wishes to remove the disconnection between the real-life practicality and coures contents of martial arts in university, and finally cultivates the qualified teachers and talents in martial arts who are fit for physical education in both primary school and middle school. As it is sincerely hoped, the research above can go somewhere offering some theoretical and practical suggestions to the content reform of required martial arts in physical education of Guangxi universities.
