Foreign cultural selection is one key part of texts in Chinese books of elementary school, which contains a lot of information on foreign culture, so it has special significance of cultural education. After checking change of foreign cultural selections from Chinese educational materials in elementary school since the establishment of our country, this article focuses on analyzing the three experimental schoolbooks which are representational after the fulfillment of curriculum criterion, including experimental Chinese elementary schoolbooks as per compulsory education curriculum criterion published by Jiangsu Education Press, experimental Chinese elementary schoolbooks as per compulsory education curriculum criterion published by People's Education Press and experimental Chinese elementary schoolbooks as per compulsory education curriculum criterion published by Beijing Normal University Press. Analysis on above materials is conducted to summarize the success on collection and arrangement of foreign cultural selections in the existing educational materials and try to give suggestions to construction of rational and scientific system of foreign cultural selection and arrangement in order to exploit its significant function on cultural education.This article consists of three parts:The first part summarizes general condition of foreign cultural selections from Chinese books in elementary school since the establishment of our country, hereinto focuses on running back over the historical changes and development track after "Cultural Revolution". The second part, taking experimental schoolbooks as per curriculum criterion published by Jiangsu Education Press, People's Education Press & Beijing Normal University Press as the specimen, summarizes the characteristics and problems in existing foreign cultural selections by detailed analysis, i.e. undetermined objective to select and edit, lacking wholeness; unbalance on national distribution, insufficient diversity; too dispersed arrangement; too many subjects on intercommunity. And the third part boldly gives suggestions to arrangement of foreign cultural selections in Chinese books of elementary school as well as countermeasures to improvement from two aspects, i.e. objective and principles to select and edit, and give feasible handling ways to system of select and edit.
