On The Pattern Of Student Self-Governance For The University Class

The theme of this research is the pattern of student self-governance for the university class (PSGUC). PSGUC refers the process that students govern their class by themselves with the guidance and steering from their tutors, and the support from the university. The research methods used include mainly literature review, interview and questionnaire.The major contents of this dissertation are: by interviewing 487 undergraduates, tutors, teachers with closed questionnaires, the problems of existing student governance are looked into. Based on the findings from the questionnaires, the targets, contents, processes and supporting mechanisms are discussed in details in order to establish PSGUC being suitable to the development of Chinese universities.Through research, the following are the main conclusions: (1) Implementation self-governance is helpful for the development of students, teachers and the university. (2) The target of self-governance for the university class is to help the students to manage the classes more effectively, and promote the student's development in the whole-round way. (3) The main contents of self-governance for the university class include the governance of the student's moral life,study,daily activities, in-class and out-class arrangements, and psychological adjustment, and also the participation in the class of self-management. (4) The general processes of student self-governance include: promoting the sense of self-governance---determining self-governance objectives---planning the implementation---feedbacking and adjusting. (5)The implementation of student's self-governance for the class is influenced those factors, the university regulations, teacher's guidance, and student's awareness. (6)Student self-governance for the class needs the support of the university to create a harmonious atmosphere to provide systematic polices and regulations, to build a scientific evaluation system, and to train the professional tutors for the students.
