Nursing is a synthetical subject of natural science and social science. As society changes, the nursing undergraduates which are the future main strengths of the nursing fields are constantly engaged in self-reform. For individual, an important means of self-reform is career planning which is the important thinking of modern management. Career planning is an effective tool for fully developing their potential and self-consciously management. One who is good at self-planning can have the correct direction of progress and effective action measures. However, there are no individual systimatical career planning and tutorial course in Chinese traditional education system. Therefore, in order to prepare better for life, contemporary nursing undergraduates need hurry to fill career planning course.Objectives:This paper was based on the results of previous studies and analysis, and discussed influences on nursing undergraduates by demographic variables in the career planning process, and investigated the related knowledge of nursing undergraduates'career planning. On these bases, the paper discussed the methods and education modes of nursing undergraduates'career planning. The goal was to guide nursing undergraduates to complete self-professional career planning. At the same time, we made a little discussion for the difference in career planning status between developed regions and less developed areas for nursing undergraduates.Subjects and methods:Use survey questionnaires by secret ballot to investigate Taiyuan and Guangzhou Medical College 04~06 unified nursing undergraduates in school. 1,098 questionnaires were issued and valid questionnaires were 1,076. Then use descriptive statistics analysis and ANOVA to analyze the outcome of investigation.Results:1.School had notable impact on self-cognition, self-improvement and interpersonal dimensions of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Sex had notable impact on self-cognition, self-improvement, interpersonal and feedback dimensions of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Whether the students were cadres had significant impact on interpersonal and feedback dimensions of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Grade had notable impact on self-improvement dimension of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Living area had a notable impact on self-cognition and interpersonal dimensions of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Father's career had impact on self-cognition dimension of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05). Mother's career had impact on occupational exploration, self-cognition and interpersonal dimensions of nursing undergraduates'career planning(P﹤0.05).2. Relevant knowledge investigations revealed that only 1.5% of nursing undergraduates were well aware of occupational planning, and only 3.4% were well aware of nurse, but more than 80% were necessary for career planning, and agreed school to creat career planning course. Professional loyalty survey showed that only 6.7% of nursing undergraduates liked nurse very much, and only 5% were very satisfied with nurse, and more than 50% suggested that the development of nurse future was not very good. Then there were only 28.8% of nursing undergraduates hope taking up nurse as future's career voluntarily. With the growth of grades, nursing undergraduates deepened their understanding of nurse and career planning. But the satisfaction of nurse profession had shown a downward trend.3. Correlation analysis showed a correlation between related knowledge and dimentions of nursing undergraduates'career planning. The students who career planning better were more understanding for related knowledge. However, with the feedback dimention scores increased, nursing undergraduates'loyalty for nurse had not improved.Conclusions:1. ANOVA analysis showed that demographic variables had great impact on nursing undergraduates'caree planning.2. Status survey showed that career planning education in nursing undergraduates'had not yet widespread. There were quite a number of nursing undergraduates were obscure for their choice of nurse career. Their loyalty of nurse was lower. But they had a general need for career planning3. Correlation analysis showed that the students who career planning better were more understanding for related knowledge. But the nursing students with the professional loyalty of career planning was not mature. Therefore, it should strengthen career planning education and enhance the feelings of professional education for nursing undergraduates to guide them to understand the relevant knowledge and correct plan their own future.
