The professionalization of university administrative staff is the inevitable result of the development of higher education and the necessary approach for Chinese local universities to face the challenge in education at home and abroad. As the premise of the administrative professionalization in local universities, the professionalization of administrative staff is in essence of the generality of professionalization administration as well as the characteristics of local university administration. The professionalization of those staff, especially the local ones, not only helps higher education further promote the social and economic development but also helps establish scientific development ideology, realizing the fast and harmonious development of higher education.Nowadays, the general state of local university administrative staff in our country is: most of the staff are dedicated to their profession, yet they are without pioneering spirit and are used to maintaining conventional and unitary administration; though there has been considerable advance of the stuff's educational level, the lack of special training and professional knowledge causes staff's concerned administrational and researching ability of to be poor; due to the absence of the better system of professional administration training, the staff cannot receive lifelong training, which could have helped them obtain the professional knowledge and skill of educational administration and carry out the administrational task independently; subjective and unequal incentive mechanism seriously polarizes the treatment of the administrator, and their social status has not yet been broadly recognized by the public. The reasons lie in: the emphasis is unilaterally laid on university administrative staff' consciousness of "service" rather than the consciousness of becoming more professionalized; consciously or unconsciously equate the professionalization of university administrative staff to the achievement of more advanced knowledge and education, which leads their learning goals to be ambiguous; neglect the significance of strengthening the specializing training of university administrative staff and have not constituted any flexible or diversified training system, which is with substantial result, let alone carry it out energetically; there has yet been any reasonable examination assessment system aiming at administrative staff to enable them to form proper behavior and value orientation and to bring individual enthusiasm and group efficiency into full play.Considering China's national conditions and the experience of university administrator professionalization construction in foreign countries, the methods of promoting the professionalization of local university administrative staff are as follow: renew the idea of university administration and optimize the engagement system of administrators; establish the evaluation system according to universities' own conditions and form the incentive mechanism of "high pay for high quality work"; implement the idea of knowledge management and attach importance to international communication and cooperation.
