A Study Of Thought And Practice Of Scientific And Technical Personnel Of Zhu Kezhen As The President Of Zhejiang University

Zhu Kezhen (1890- 1974) is a famous scientist and educator in modern China. During the period from 1936 to 1949, as the president of Zhejiang University, Zhu Kezhen led the University to grow up from a common one to one of small number of famous universities in China. The scientific and technical personnel play a crucial role in the rise of Zhejiang University. Undoubtedly, it is closely related to the thought and practice of scientific and technical personnel of Zhu Kezhen as the President of Zhejiang University. In this thesis, the scientific and technical personnel refers to the teachers who undertook the instruction and research activity in some related subjects on the field of science and technology in Zhejiang University.It is important to study the thought and practice of scientific and technical personnel of Zhu Kezhen as the President of Zhejiang University to the study of the history of Zhenjiang University, Zhu Kezhen studies and the study of the history of science and technology in the Republic of China.Based on the historical material provided by the recent-published book Zhu Kezhen Quanji (Complete Works of Zhu Kezhen), the thesis exploits and constructs the scientific and technical personnel of Zhu Kezhen as the President of Zhejiang University. Firstly, the author introduces briefly the education and academic background of Zhu Kezhen, the process of assuming the post as the President of Zhejiang University, and the stages of the practice of scientific and technical personnel of Zhu Kezhen during that time. Secondly, the author discusses deeply the thought and practice of introducing and appointing the scientific and technical personnel of Zhu Kezhen. He persistently pursues the standard of having both a good character and professional competence. Meanwhile, he pursues to broaden the channel of introducing the scientific and technical personnel, and to establish the strict and normal procedure of appointing the scientific and technical personnel. Thirdly, the author elaborates the thought and practice of Zhu Kezhen's evaluation and encourage to the scientific and technical personnel. He had the objective and impartial thought of evaluating the personnel. Meanwhile, he treated the scientific and technical personnel with the attitude of tempering justice with mercy, and he continuously encouraged the scientific and technical personnel to obtain the comprehensive development. Finally, the author presents comprehensive analysis of Zhu Kezhen's thought and practice of cultivating and training the scientific and technical personnel. He paid attention to assign the scientific and technical personnel to study abroad, to strengthen the academic exchange activities, to provide the safeguards of equipment, literature and expenditure, and to create the niecer atmosphere in favor of the cultivating and training the scientific and technical personnel.
