The Comparison Between Taiwan And Chinese Mainland On Tests Concerning Classical Chinese In College Entrance Examinations Of The Past Five Years

Chinese is an important subject of College Entrance Examination and the test on Chinese prepares the students for the future education in the college.Classical Chinese constitutes a major portion of the Examination Papters of Chinese subject.A probe into Examination Papers regarding Classical Chinese not only leads the teachers and students to an insight and better understanding of this component of Chinese and examination papers,but will help to improve future practice of Chinese teaching in Middle School and High School. Current researches concerning Classical Chinese rest mostly on the teaching methods,the values of teaching materials,words and phrases,appreciation of article and values.As far as the Examination Papers of Chinese is concerned,far less researches could be found as to the topics of Classical Chinese.Taiwan preserves the same culture values and ethical philosophy as Chinese Mainland. Its Chinese teaching and examination pays much attention to Classical Chinese and puts emphasis on descent of ethical common values,especially Confucian Thinkings.By comparing the Chinese Examination Papers on Classical Chinese across the Strait,we could find that they are just 'Six of one,half a dozen of the other'.Taiwan papers comprise a large number of tests questions which constitue a high ratio of the Paper.Most of the test questions could find their origins back into the teaching materials and the forms of the questions in the Papers are comparatively simple regarding its Mainland counterparts.Mainland Papers witness less test questions and lower ratio in general,and many of the questions derive beyond teching materials.We could discover,via the test questions in Taiwan Papers,that the teaching and exams cherish tradition or ancient Chinese culture fruits,and that the students,on the other hand, maintain good appreciation of Classical Chinese,which owes to the teaching principles of Classical Chinese in Taiwan.From the standpoint of Mainland College Entrance Examination,this paper is expected to throw some light on how to learn from our Taiwan counterparts and better improve our Papers as well as education on Classical Chinese.
