Role model education is an efficient approach to the ideological and ethical education in our country. It plays an indispensable part in the improvement of the whole nation's ethical quality. In the process of learning these role models, the author has reflected on their deeds in the current textbooks of the ideological and ethical education in the secondary schools. These role models are diversified and represent a wide range of levels who are authentic and real and they are within the easy reach of students. In some aspects, they have excellently proved the relevant theoretical knowledge in the textbooks. In addition, they help to enhance the students' interest in study and make the teaching objectives achieved. But there is still some room for improvement. Under the guidelines of certain theoretical knowledge and combined with the author's own practical experience, the author makes a tentative attempt to explore the problems in role model education and suggests some strategies of handling them.In the introductory part, the author summarizes the recent achievements on role model education by some researchers. Based on the summary, the author puts forward her own point of view. Meanwhile, the definitions of role models have been given and the textbooks to be adopted have also been illustrated.; In the main body, Part 1 gives a general analysis of the importance of applying role models to the current textbooks of ideological and ethical education in the secondary schools. Part 2 gives a specific analysis of the appearances, types and characteristics of role models in the textbooks and a detailed analysis of the current problems has also been given. Most of role models are extracted from the textbooks for the 8th grade students. Part 3 puts forwards tentative proposals as to how to improve role models in the textbooks from the perspective of the textbook editors and teachers.
