Thought is the precursor of action. Therefore, a new thought is required in order to achieve a substantial change in education quality. Since Vocational education in Germany has been playing a leading role in the world, the Shaping-oriented teaching and learning (SOTL) in German vocational education has been the mainstream of vocational education thoughts in modern western countries, which pushes forward the development of vocational education theory and practice. On analyzing the SOTL in German vocational education, the dissertation aims to provide a new sight and inspiration for Chinese vocational education. Based on this aim, it begins with"what is the directive thought that accord with the rule of vocational education", then analyzes and expounds the thought from its historical development, basic theory, the basis of the argument as well as the synthesized demonstration.The dissertation divides into six chapters. Chapter 1 mainly deals with the research questions, the theoretical and practical significance, the conceptual framework, the content as well as the research methods. Chapter 2 introduces the background and the historical development of theory and practice of SOTL in German vocational education according to time sequence. Chapter 3 expounds the essential meaning of the thought, and summarize its five characteristics namely as openness, interdisciplinary, critical reflectiveness, human oriented and forward looking. Chapter 4 analyzes the essence of this new thought with four aspects which includes three learning theories, natural objective rules and human activeness, new changes of modern society and work, and Action-oriented teaching design. Chapter 5 shows the"extended teaching model"originated from the famous Berlin's Model of Germany, which makes the teaching plan, implementation and evaluation in vocational schools practical. Furthermore, the author's practical experience in Germany is cited in this chapter. Chapter 6 compares the vocational education backgrounds between China and Germany and finds their differences. According to the differences, the dissertation demonstrates the necessity of introducing German SOTL in the vocational education to China and summarizes its inspiration to promote the reform of vocational education in China.
