The competition of the world economy is between talents.It means education especially high education is the most important to a country.Research universities are keys to our country's innovations,and young faculty are main forces now and future.In this context,it's an important part of the research university that how to provoke the young faculty.The quality of the young faculty influences the developing level of the subjects and the talents.So we should analyze the impetus of the growth of young faculty in research universities first.Integrating theory with practice,the article shows the internal and external impetus of the growth of young faculty in research universities.The article explains what the concept of the Research University,young faculty and impetus are.The article summarizes the related incentive concepts and the major western motivation theories.Then,the general situation of young faculty in universities is summered in the article.Based on the theory research,the article constructs the structure of the impetus of the growth of young faculty,makes up a questionnaire,and investigates the impetus of the growth of young faculty(under 40 years old) of DUT.After analyzing the result in sexes,professional titles,educational levels and ages,series meaningful conclusions are proposed.For example,internal factors influence young teachers more than external factors;achievement motivation is the most important in internal factors; in external factors,training and development play the most important parts;there's difference in sexes about impetus;the impetus of the growth of young faculty in research universities doesn't change much of ages;there's not obvious between professional titles about impetus.Some pertinence suggestions are proposed,including:emphasizing the incentive action of work itself,and developing evaluation and meeting the increasing demand of young faculty for continuous development.
