Regular physical exercise has been advocated as a key component of a healthy lifestyle.Despite the various health benefits of engaging in exercise, many individuals continue to lead a sedentary lifestyle. Against this backdrop it is imperative to identify the key proximal predictors of exercise behavior in order to conduct effective interventions. One model that has attracted considerable attention in the exercise domain is the Theory of Planned Behavior(Ajzen,1988).In recent years some researchers in our country have briefly introduced this model, but the systematic introduction is still needed, and further researches should be done to test, modify and establish the model in exercise psychology. In this study, the tool for measurement of the TPB and barrier self-efficacy was from foreign scale. The scale presented good internal consistency, content validity, construct validity by psychometric analysis.Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, behavior planning and barrier self-efficacy was added as predictive variables.By SEM,good model fittness was got.Totally 466 collegiate students from two colleges in Anhui province were tested during the research, including 214 males and 252 females.Result showed:The planning and barrier self-efficacy measure would both explain the additional variance in exercise intention and behavior.Planning was found to be taken as a mediator between the intention-behavior relationships.Barrier self-efficacy was found to be taken as a moderator between the intention-behavior relationships.Students' exercise behavior was longitudinally intervened experimentally by using the method of behavior planning and barrier self-efficacy.Quasi-experimental study provided evidence to support the use of behavior planning and barrier self-efficacy in reducing the discrepancy between intensions and behavior, which implied its utility as a credible and operative tool for predicting physical activity. However, there was no difference between the effect of the two intervention methods.
