Chen Heqin is the pioneer in the research of China's modern preschool education. By creatively using various educational research approaches, he has done researches in such fields as psychology, the preschool curriculum, the children family education, and the infant normal education and so on. He obtained prolific results and has had the huge influence to Chinese pre-school education modernization. He is honored as "father of Chinese preschool education".The thesis will discuss the Chen Heqin's preschool education research methods, trace the reasons for why he obtained the plentiful research results . This study launches from four parts.The first part discussed the background of Chen heqin's preschool educational researches. It explores the origin of Chen heqin's research approaches from the influence of the May Fourth New-cultural Movement, the then existing problems of China's preschool education, the significance of the new education experiments conducted in China using the western modern educational research methodology, and Chen heqin's grasp of the spirit of western educational research.The second part probes Chen heqin's researches in terms of his approaches to studying the situation of preschool education at that time, the physical and mental development of Chinese children, the preschool curriculum, the family education of preschool children, the educational test and the Childhood education normal school. The third part elaborates on the characteristics of Chen heqin's research approaches which feature the emphasis on experimental, empirical, and quantitative analysis, and the creatively inclusive use of a variety of research approaches in a Chinese and scientific way.The forth part explores some significant enlightenment of Chen heqin's preschool education research methods. More attention should be paid to the research approaches in preschool education in respect of the adoption and innovative use of such approaches, of experiments to facilitate the sustainable development of preschool education, and the spirit of seeking truth etc. In conclusion,the current research approaches to preschool education needs more profound studies and they need to be Chinalization.
