Exploration in the localization of games for children constitutes an important part of Heqin Chen's efforts for the localization of early childhood education. Heqin Chen successfully combines the excellent traditional Chinese culture and western advanced educational theories, and builds up a local system of games for children through constant revision and improvement in practice, which has exerted both theoretically and practically a major impact in China. Unfortunately, Heqin Chen's educational theory has not received much attention and long been neglected since the founding of the People's Republic of China, mainly due to unreasonable criticism of educational pragmatism. With the development of educational reform, Heqin Chen's educational theory has gradually attracted more and more attention from the academic world, thus becoming a hot research topic. However, a survey of previous research achievements indicates that studies on Heqin Chen's strive for the localization of games for children are not enough and don't fully reflect its value. The utilization of the beneficial factors in Heqin Chen's ideas on the localization of games for children not only means the heritage and promotion of China's legacy of early childhood education, but also meets the internal demand for the early childhood education reform. On the basis of the re-organization, refinement and absorption of Heqin Chen's educational ideology, this thesis tries to carry out a detailed study on his theory and practice related to games for children from the perspective of localization. To start with the background of his undertaking of the localization of games for children, it is argued in the thesis that Heqin Chen's endeavor is due to a couple of reasons, including the surge of foreign educational concepts, domestic social and cultural changes, the absorption of and fusion with western educational theories. Heqin Chen's rich experience in studying abroad and his tireless exploration lay a foundation for the localization of games for children. The second part of the thesis is on Heqin Chen's main achievements in the exploration of the localization of games for children, inclusive of the formation of a new concept of games for children through continuous practice and observation, the creation of a kindergarten game curriculum in line with national conditions and taste, the introduction of new methods of teaching through games with local characteristics, purchase of gaming facilities in consideration of national conditions and Chinese children's personality, as well as the development and utilization of folk game resources. The final part of the thesis is focused on the enlightenment obtained from Heqin Chen's research. Through the re-organization and analysis of Heqin Chen's process of exploration in the localization of games for children, it is expected that some inferences can be drawn for the reform of early childhood education in China.
