The Research On The Alumni Association In American University

As an important resource, alumni is becoming more and more important for colleges and universities in recent years. And then alumni association also came into being by way of the carrier of college alumni work. But our college alumni association has some insufficiencies : short history of organizing activities, lack of understanding the purpose; the lack of a sound organizational structure and a good working network; the lack of full-time staff of the alumni association; the simplex activities, etc.. College alumni association in the United States has become a fairly normative and perfect structure of alumni association and network of alumni through 300 years development. Therefore, this article is aimed at offering some advices for the development of college alumni association in out country by the study of the history, current situation and characteristics about college alumni association of in American.This research synthesis utilized the literature, history research, comparative research and case study analysis method. This study summarized the history and current situation of the American college alumni association through collecting the relevant literature information; and summarized the characteristics of the American college alumni association. Through the comparison the alumni associations between American colleges and our colleges, we found the problems we existed and then offered and found corresponding countermeasures.In this paper, in addition to introduction and conclusion, there are five main sections.The first part is the history review of the American college alumni association. The development of American college alumni association will divide into four stages , and there is a conclusion of the background,the form of the alumni association and the characteristics of each stage in this part.The second part is current situation of American college alumni association. Through the collecting information and landing the site of alumni associations in American colleges, we conclude the main purpose,the structure and the operation of the American colleges alumni association currently.The third part is the case analysis of American college alumni association. Selected for the Yale University and the University of Wisconsin as a case, we found there is no difference in essence between public colleges and private colleges by comparison, they show the importance for the work of alumni association.The fourth part is the characteristics and trends of American college alumni association. Through the analysis, there are four characteristics of it: attaching importance to the work of alumni association; the purpose is to establish a multi-benefit relationship; has a sound organizational structure and a large number of staff; has a wide range of purposes and a variety of activities. There is a prediction of development tend of the American college alumni association as well. The last part is about the revelation to our college alumni association. Searching the information about our current college alumni association, find the shortage of it through comparing with American college alumni association, and then make relevant recommendations .The recommendations include: changing concept of alumni work; to perfect a sound institution and work network of alumni; to establish an outstanding staff; to expand the contents of alumni work; to enrich the alumni activities.
