Have undergone the Sino-Japanese War and All-out Civil War from 1920s to 1950s, Chinese society moved from an unstable stage to a stable peace gradually. During this period, the tribulation experienced by the general populace is most grave. This paper selects primary and middle school teachers in Shanghai of the populaces at that time, whose life conditions reflected the entire national community's survival condition from one side. This paper constitutes three parts and a conclusion, the content of which is approximately as follows:The time period mainly elaborated in the first part is from the 1920s to the Sino-Japanese War's victory. In this period, primary and middle schools teachers' peaceful lives changed into a precarious state. But they didn't give up the life, and still endured till Sino-Japanese War's victory. What the second part concerns is from Sino-Japanese War's victory to the birth of the new China. In this period of time, those teachers' salaries and living standards dropped to the lowest of the history. After having suffered from Sino-Japanese War, they thought that they could live a peaceful life. However, they had never realized that they encountered All-out Civil War's eruption. The All-out Civil War's eruption ruined their dreams. Primary and middle schools teachers' "temporary good lives"went into a nosedive that their living standards dropped rapidly to the bottom before the liberation. Their hopes to Nanjing National government collapsed. The third part mainly talks about those teachers' salaries and living standrads in the period from Shanghai's liberation to the salary reform in 1956. As soon as Shanghai's Liberation, the Communist Chinese Regime took powerful control of entire Shanghai, so that the value of RMB stayed stable, the general price was controlled repeatedly. Although the general teachers' living standards repeatedly went through the twists and turns, but compared to the pre-liberation there was a very big change for the better. The Communist Chinese Regime also started the salary system reform of the primary and middle schools teachers. From the previous salary unit system to the currency salary system, those teachers' salaries were also unceasingly increasing, and their social states also had a guarantee. As a result, they had a bigger confidence to the new China's construction. In the last part of the paper, there is a summary and a discussion showing my superficial understandings about primary and middle schools teachers' literacy and their attitudes towards political power. Only when their living standards are improved, can they have the energy to take advanced courses, to read the massive books and to improve their own professional and moral training. At the same time, only if the government guarantees their lives, will they trust and support this government.
