Study On The Design Of English Homework For Junior Middle School Students

The design of English homework is an integral part of teaching process in junior middle school. And it is highly beneficial to the quality of English teaching and learning. However, it has not been paid special attention to in the New Curriculum Reform. Therefore, it is necessary to do more researches into the design of English homework for junior middle school students.The paper summarizes the research findings at home and abroad on the homework for junior middle school students. A survey has been done by giving out questionnaires to understand the current status of the English homework for junior school students. Then based on theories, some principals concerning the English homework design has been developed, its fundamental features have been identified, and some basic elements of English homework design have been explored from five different perspectives. In addition, some concrete cases in English homework design practice have been presented and analyzed from four different angles.There are seven parts in the paper. The part of Introduction depicts research background and defines some related concepts. Chapter One offers a brief review of the researches on homework design at home and abroad and, a comprehensive summary of the existing research outcomes. Chapter Two gives a report on the investigation and analysis of English homework in junior middle school. Chapter Three covers the principals of English homework design, and the features of English homework in junior middle school. In the fourth chapter, five fundamental elements for junior middle school English homework design are fully discussed. These five elements are the purpose of English homework, Formation and Contents of English homework, difficulty of English homework, the amount of English homework and the arrangement of English homework. The fifth chapter is a case analysis. Some examples have been given to illustrate the design of English homework from four different angles. The part of Conclusion is a summary of the whole paper, in which some suggestions related to the design of English homework have been offered and the need for further research has been identified.
