With the further operation of new curriculum reform,more and more attention has been paid to English homework.Although an increasing number of middle school teachers and scholars participate in the study of English homework,few changes of English homework design in junior middle school are witnessed.In view of the present situation,this thesis provides a literature review of related research both at home and abroad.Two kinds of English homework,mainly concerning about its content and form,including the corresponding correcting ways,are designed for each unit of the textbook in junior middle school based on the theory of Humanism,"Zone of Proximal Development" and the theory of Multiple Intelligence.The thesis aims to provide new ideas for the practice of English homework design in junior middle school.The research methods in this study are mainly literature research,questionnaire,experimental method and interview.Two parallel classes of junior middles school students from a junior middle school in Hainan are chosen as subjects.According to the pre-test,one of the two classes is chosen as experimental class which adopts two kinds of English homework designed by the author,mainly concerning about its content and form,and the other one is control class which still employs the traditional way of homework assignment.The results of the tests,questionnaires and interviews of the two classes before and after the experiment are analyzed to determine the effects of the two kinds of English homework designed by the author on students' English learning achievement and attitude toward English homework.Results show that the effects are quite positive.And the author thinks that this study brings enlightenment for English homework design in junior middle school,for example,the selected content of homework should be representative and the amount of homework should be acceptable.These conclusions can provide some guidance to English homework design and correcting in junior middle school,but there are still some limitations,which remain to be further perfected in the follow-up teachingpractice and research.
