There is a question on value orientation in the history of mathematics education. It is generally believed that mathematics education has three kinds of value orientation: knowledge, thought, and application. In current math education, the first and second have been more emphasized, but the importance of the last one has been neglected. The application value directly determines math teaching practice. Just as the neglect of application value, there are some problems in math education, such as design of curriculum, mold of teaching and evaluation on education. As a result, students are lack of consciousness and ability of application. It requires us to take an effective strategy to correct the value orientation and education practice.In this paper, on the basis of established research, we make a questionnaire survey and interviews on how to strengthen the application value in high school math education. Application education in math is a process of using mathematical knowledge, mathematical methods, and mathematical thought to analyze the world situation and to organize education practice. Its aim is to cultivate students' ability of mathematization, problem-solving skills and innovative capacity. Strengthening the application of math in education practice, we must upgrade the consciousness of mathematical application values, and foster the teaching thought of using mathematical knowledge to solve practical problems. We must rethink teaching materials in the value orientation of math application, selecting proper materials, setting math problems, and so on. It is necessary to make a training of math teacher in high school, correcting their value orientation, fostering their thought, and improving their abilities. In addition, we should try to create conditions for students to participate in the process of mathematization, to use mathematical knowledge to solve problems in real life, and explore the general law in the internal math problem. In this way, we can strengthen our students' value orientation of math application, and improve their abilities of using math to solve problems.In this paper, we choose a case about vector teaching project to analyze. The aim is to demonstrate the way of math application teaching in high school and its effect. In the case, we further clarify the relationship between the value orientation of math application and math teaching in high school. In this way, our students can strengthen the value orientation of math application, practice good mental training, and improve their abilities of using math to solve problems effectively. So, they can use mathematical knowledge and thought to understand, consider, and solve problems.
