A Study Of Student Financial Support System Of Higher Education In The United Kingdom

Since the 1990's, with the society development and progress,the scale of higher education all over the world has further expand , higher education funds shortage has become a necessary problem to be solustion. China's higher education financial support system reform started in 1983, before the system is"free of charge plus grants", and now a toll on the university and a variety of financial support situation has become, but in case of shortage of funds, how to establish a fair and effective financial support system of higher education to ensure that the children of poor families have equal access to higher education and successfully complete their education. Such questions challenge our education researchers, policy makers, implementers of education policy at large.The purpose of this paper is ,first, to examine the historical development, support ideas and support mode of the student financial support system of higher education in the United Kingdom, and then, to analysis and summary its characteristics, at last to propose some reference and inspiration to our financial support system.The main part of this thesis consists of six chapters.Chapter One"The historical development of the student financial support system of higher education in the United Kingdom", briefly outlined four stage of development of the student financial support system. Emphasis on the development from " free plus grants" to "grants to the student loans" mode stage.Chapter Two"The idea of the student financial support system of higher education in the United Kingdom", reviewed the four different theories on the UK higher education student financial support system.Chapter Three"The main content of the student financial support system of higher education in the United Kingdom", from three aspects of support agencies, support modes and support manage to study the support system.Chapter Four"A case study of Nottingham", More specific understanding of how British universities support student.Chapter Five"the characteristics of the student financial support system of higher education in the United Kingdom"This review focus on the Income contingent loan and the student loan payment system which managed by the tax department.Chapter six"The inspiration to our country by the experience of student support in the UK higher education", briefly reviews the history of student financial support system of China, examine the problem of student financial support system in China, and then learning the UK's experience of support, at last it raises some suggestions for the establishment of the reason reasonable financial support system of higher education in China.
