This thesis investigated and studied students' understanding of probability and statistics, the implementation of teaching probability and statistics, and teachers' professional preparation of teaching in this regard in the context of the new curriculum. These issues are worthy of our concern currently. The study was based on students from quality-oriented class and a number of maths teachers from a senior middle school in Changshu. The problems to be investigated are:1. The understanding of statistics from the students based on different probability and statistics education.2. The understanding of probability from the students based on different probability and Statistics education.3. The implementation of teaching probability and statistics under the new curriculum, as well as the existance of students' common misconceptions about probability among teachers. The thesis can be divided into three parts in general. The first and second part studied the cognitive circumstances about probability and statistics of the students based on different probability and Statistics education from grade 9 to grade 12 by test volume. In the part of statistics, the research used the SOLO Taxonomy to concrete study students' cognitive circumstances on four aspects of the basic application of statistics and statistical conscious, obtaining direct information from the statistical tables and charts, obtaining trend information from the statistical tables and charts, and solving practical problems through the collection, collation and analysis of data. In the part of probability, the research studied knowledge of the students on three aspects of the identification of random events, the explanation of opportunities for value, and the comparison of the opportunity. Added up the erroneous cognitive of the students reflected in their answers. The third part conducted a questionnaire survey and the probability of a knowledge test to the school's maths teacher, in order to find out the implementation of teaching probability and statistics under the new curriculum, and the existance of students' common misconceptions about probability among teachers.By the analysis of questionnaires and test cases, the following conclusions were obtained:1. Students in quality-oriented class from grade 9 to grade 12 had a better level of cognitive structure about statistics and probability.2. The proportion of high-level answer among the students from grade 10 was lower than that among the students from grade 9 on higher level of cognitive structure of the statistical issues.3. Misconceptions about probability such as "simple compound approach", "equiprobability of bias" and "outcome approach" existed to varying degrees in both students and teachers.4. More than half of the teachers believe that introducing statistics and probability into curriculum is important and they think they are capable of teaching. Teachers complained the shortage of teaching resources. All the teachers had learned statistics and probability before, but the test shown the teachers' subject knowledge of probability is not sufficient. In the end, some practical suggestions based on the findings of this study were proposed to the teaching of probability and statistics.
