The Research Of The Development Status Of Migrant Workers In Shandong Province

Migrant workers are an important impetus to the social and economic development of Shandong province. Most of them work in non-public economic organizations, while a small number of them are employees of state-owned enterprises. They are mainly engaged in production and service industry. Ever since reform and opening-up, the structure of migrant workers has seen great changes. The essential component has transformed from the floating population with farmer workers as the mainstay to army of migrant workers consisting of peasant workers, town staff, and cross-regional flow of some college graduates. They participate widely in management and production and play an invaluable role in realizing socialist modernization, accelerating the pace of urbanization, and developing tertiary industries in Shandong province.Migrant workers do not only consist of the inner- province migrating group, but also part of the population from other provinces. They are distinctive from other groups in value, selection of jobs, realization of rights and needs in development.Based on systematical investigation and data analysis, the report makes a comprehensive view of the current situation of the group, analyzes the existing problems met by them, and probes the trend of development of migrant workers.
