Chinese language and Chinese characters have a long history of thousand years. As long as the characters came into being, learning characters has been the start of Chinese language education. From《Shi Zhou》to the updated teaching materials of primary school, we have got plenty of experience of teaching characters. This paper studied reading-characters on the aspects of both the ancient teaching materials and methods and the updated primary school teaching materials and methods. Basing on the results of modern psychology, pedagogy, and research of the Chinese characters rules, the writer hopes to give out more completely and creatively inspiration to the reading-character education of the updated primary school.Firstly, this paper ran back over the history of the Chinese ancient reading-characters education, and then analyzed the situation of the updated primary school reading-characters education from its theories, types and characteristics. Secondly, basing on the former analysis, the writer compared the ancient and the updated reading-characters teaching, which was carried out from three aspects: value, teaching materials, and teaching methods. The comparison of value is the innovative points of the paper. Finally, this paper talked about the apocalypse of the ancient reading-characters teaching upon the updated primary school new course reading-characters teaching. This writer hopes to give some enlightenment to the practitioner and researchers of Chinese characters education.
