As with the athletes'making preparations for the coming competition, in English teaching, before each unit or a subject, the teacher should come up with some good ideas to lead in, to attract the students'attention, to increase their interest, to stimulate the students'mind and to arouse enthusiasm of the students to participate. That is"warming up". Warming up can efficiently stimulate the original background knowledge, widen their horizon and add some new information, arouse the students'deep thinking, further understand the English culture and improve their quality. Meanwhile, it can help the teacher to achieve the teaching goal, and lay a foundation for the further study in the class.Task-Based Language Teaching, which goes with the teaching reform in our country, reflects the basic language learning regularity of the human beings and more and more English teachers are interested in it for it's practical, scientific and easy to handle. Task-Based Language Teaching emphasizes"study in activities"and thus the students can learn some knowledge from their own activities. If an English teacher can design the"warming up"activities well, according to this theory, he or she can fully arouse the students'enthusiasm to study English in a short time and can lead the students to cooperate with the teacher to finish the task in this period.How can teachers instruct the"warming up"activities by using the idea of Task-Based Language Teaching Theory? What are the history background and the theoretical basis of Task-Based Language Teaching Theory? How can teachers stimulate the students'interest in English study by designing some effective activities? And how should teachers design effective warming up activities? This thesis will discuss these questions.This thesis consists of five chapters in all. In Chapter I the writer mainly introduced the background and the reason for choosing this topic. In Chapter II the writer reviewed some related literatures. Chapter III and Chapter IV are the main body of the thesis. It analyzed the"research aims, target, and result as well as a self-questioning about the present situation of the English classes in our area. After some detailed analysis, the writer summarized some proposals while designing the warming up activities. In Chapter V, the writer drew the conclusion .
