Basketball class has been one of the major PE courses in vocational colleges. One of the PE teaching purposes is to help students to experience the pleasure in PE activities and success. However, students in the same class are different from one another in PE knowledge, skills and techniques, for they are physically different and different students will study differently. Traditional teaching methods are hard to meet the PE teaching demands and hardly to achieve the teaching purpose. Therefore, a new teaching method is being sought to satisfy the modern PE teaching."The grading progressive teaching"originated from individual teaching and transformed the teaching organization significantly. In recent years, some educators in our country have conducted the grading progressive teaching, provided both theoretical and practical support by some teaching experiments. Some initial success has been achieved."The grading progressive teaching"has also produced some effects in PE teaching. This thesis recommends that the grading progressive teaching should follow such principles: grading and non-grading taking turns; all the students participating; all the students making progresses and so on. The author thinks that, according to the individual difference, students should be divided into three groups and make up learning subgroups in which different students are involved. Different teaching purposes should be laid down according to the students'characters in different levels. With the help of this teaching method, teaching individualization will be promoted; students will sharpen their basketball-playing skills and motivate their learning interests. The grading progressive teaching will bring about students'overall development and will be of some help in enhance students'sense of competitiveness and learning interests. The grading progressive teaching method is suitable for following the trends, for meeting the requirements of tertiary basketball teaching, for enhancing students'integrated skills.This thesis employs the following methods: bibliography, interview with specialists, questionnaire, mathematical and physical statistics, teaching experiments. The experiment is carried on in two classes randomly selected from the basketball classes in Dongying Vocational College for one term. The grading progressive teaching method is adopted in the experimental class while the traditional teaching method in the control class. Meanwhile, according to the actual conditions, students in experimental class will be rearranged in small groups, then in the whole class, in the course of learning. The designer herself of the experiment will take the teaching tasks of both the experimental and the control classes.The experimental statistics shows that students'achievements are better than those in the control class and the excellent rates in the skills assessing are higher than those in the control class. Students in the experimental class have scored higher than those of the same level in the control class. The experiment has obtained some expected result.The experimental results indicate that the design of the grading progressive teaching project can satisfy the quality education and possess more advantages. The grading progressive teaching is beneficial for students to have the techniques of playing basketball and then to better the teaching effectiveness. This method can also help activate students'motive and develop their learning interests and activeness. This teaching way can bring about students'overall development and promote their ability to communicate and adopt to the society. This teaching method can also be of some help to build up harmonious relationships between teachers and students. The grading progressive teaching can be employed in the basketball teaching in colleges and can bring about better results.According to the experimental results, taking the current PE teaching into consideration, the author would like to offer the following suggestions for the basketball teaching reform: The grading progressive teaching can be carried out in vocational colleges according to the actual conditions; The teaching organization reform is important for the PE teaching reform in vocational colleges; Specialized and scientific research team of teaching should be established in order to better the basketball teaching staff.
