Along with the development of science and technology and economy, education has played a more and more important role in modern society."Revitalizing the nation through science and education"has already become the common understanding of different countries. Reforming the traditional education has become urgent and the demand of quality- education has also become higher and higher.In order to implement quality-oriented education and advance the educational reform, modern education requires teachers to establish a scientific view on students and recognize their particularities.For the senior middle school students, their English foundations are quite different. Besides, their learning habits, interest in English and learning abilities are also different. In order to follow the principle of teaching in accordance with students'aptitude, the author of this paper thinks it is necessary to carry out Grading and Progressive Teaching under the current condition. Therefore, the author has carried out this teaching method in Class 4, Senior 2 of No. 16 Middle School in Cheng Du. This thesis is based on the application of Grading and ProgressiveTeaching in EFL classes.The thesis is divided into four parts.The first part presents a brief introduction to Grading and Progressive Teaching and a discussion of the importance of Grading and Progressive Teaching. It also indicates Grading and Progressive Teaching is an effective method to improve each student.The second part tackles the history of Grading and Progressive Teaching, discusses the theoretical bases of Grading and Progressive Teaching. Then, it explores the necessary elements of successful Grading and Progressive Teaching and the advantages of Grading and Progressive Teaching.The third part focuses on how Grading and Progressive Teaching is applied in EFL classes in a middle school. It shows the application of different ways in improving each student with different levels.The fourth part describes the results of applying Grading and Progressive Teaching in EFL classes. It shows Grading and Progressive Teaching is really an effective way to learn English as a foreign language in the classroom.In a word, Grading and Progressive Teaching can ease the students'psychological burden, increase their confidence in English learning and enable them to taste the happiness of success in study.
