With the reform of enrollment in recent years, the constitution of students in vocational schools is getting more and more complicated. There are great differences among the students in their learning proficiency, motivation and so on. Students are less interested in learning, especially in English study. So the aim of foreign language teaching research is not only to study how to teach but also how to learn, among which research on students' psychology and the state of emotion has become the main subject of many foreign language educators. The starting point of the thesis is just about emotional factors and their influence on cognitive process. The purpose is to enhance the validity of language learning and teaching, thereby to promote individuals' development and progress. In order to stimulate students' learning interest, we need to pay more attention to emotional factors. And there are many kinds of ways to motivate students. The new point in this thesis is to stimulate students' interest by grading and progressive teaching in English class. The thesis is based on humanistic psychology and second language acquisition theories. Furthermore, neurobiology and modern education theories also play an important role in it. The paper emphasizes the role of emotion in second language acquisition, advocates learner-centered principle, and points out that teachers should make use of the grading and progressive teaching in English teaching process to stimulate students' interest. The thesis analyses the students sources, their features and the present English teaching in vocational schools, proposes a few methods of stimulating students' interest by grading and progressive English teaching. By means of experiment in Class15 Grade2004 for a year, we can find that students' learning interest is highly promoted and they have made some progress in English study. The experiment shows that the grading and progressive English teaching method is superior to the traditional one. On the other hand, the students' interest in English learning benefits their achievement and they can improve their language competence. It has turned out that grading and progressive English teaching is an effective teaching method, which is fit for all kinds of students and can develop students' potential ability sufficiently and improve teaching quality on a large scale. As a result, English teaching and learning are coming into a benevolent cycle.
