Students are not so keen on mathematics but are attracted by the poker games which full of maths. The New Standard of the Curriculum also encourages us to " provide students chances to enrich their learning expediences." These phenomena urges us to probe into the development as well as design of poker game. To offer an objective study of the application of poker game, we use the maths game as the probing point, performed a random survey of 18 elementary classes in 18 middle schools in Shanghai. And the results reveal that there is not so much use of poker game in schools. With Piaget's theory on games as a foundation, we can define the poker maths game clearly and confirm that this game enables students to attain maths knowledge and methods as well as cultivate students' interest and appreciation to mathematics. The characteristics of porker maths game is being educational, recreational, figurative and operable. The basic elements of this game are participant, tool, theme and rule. The development of this game should follow the principle of scientific, educational, interesting, interaction and exploration. This paper is intended to discuss the design principles and general process of developing poker game. This paper also offers two case studies as the references to the future practical teaching.
