Returned students from America and Europe have played a major role in development of women education in morden China. As group absorbed western education directly and fully in America and Europe, they, hoping to enrich motherland and people, had dream of saving China by education and went round calling for women's breaking away from shackles of feudalism and their independence; they set up organizations to advocate women education vigorously. Meanwhile they practised what they advocated by running or working for girls'schools of different levels and became vital force for fulfilling and promoting women education. In history of women's position of subordination to their independent status and changing of great exclusion of women education to it being an irresistible trend of the times, returned students from America and Europe have played an irreplaceable role.Documentary study and historical approach are mainly used in this paper. The author,by grubbing and studying pertinent literature carefully, makes skeleton of overseas students and development of women education in morden China out, and then shows necessary connection between the two.There are four parts in this paper. The first part is about why this subject is selected,its literature reviewa nd research design. The second part studies on contribution of returned students from America and Europe on development of women education ideas in morden China. This part is to show their contribution and effect on development of women education ideas. It concerns on their discussion on necessity and development trend of of women education their advocacy of coeducation. The third part studies on contribution of returned students from America and Europe on practices of women education. It mainly concerns their practices on women eudcation such as taking charge of educational administration,setting up organizations,running or teaching at girls'schools. The fourth part is comment on their effects on development of women education,the authour assesses and summarizes impacts of returned students from America and Europe on development of women education objectively.
