In 2007, the Boarding-School Project was completed in western rural community of China. Inner Mongolia became into one of the most important areas of this project; about 44.8% of primary school and junior high school was covered by boarding school situated in rural or pasturing community. Thus, the quality of these boarding schools would directly affect on the overall development of Inner Mongolia elementary education (including primary school and junior high school).Boarding school denotes that the students not only study in campus, but also spend their after-school time in their campus. That attributes to the lack of family education and the prolongation of school education for those boarding students. As we know, extracurricular activities have been being regarded as an effective method for promoting individual to fulfill their full development. Besides, the boarding schools in Inner Mongolia rural or pasturing community should burden the function of family education which given by parents, the function of availing the management of boarding school, and the function of enriching boarding student's life. In addition, these extracurricular activities should both facilitate the spread and advancement of multiculture, and the multicultural education. In a word, extracurricular activities are particularly significant to those boarding schools in Inner Mongolia rural or pasturing community. But how about the present situation of the extracurricular activities is being conducted in those boarding schools? Whether there are some problems? And what's that? What are reasons contributing to the problems? After an investigation to the area and taking some analysis, the author answered the questions, and tried to conceive a model for better effectiveness of the extracurricular activities in those boarding schools. At last, he gave some advice to better the external conditions of the extracurricular activities. Specifically, the thesis mainly contains four parts as following.Part One:IntroductionThe background and reasons of making the thesis, the bases of the research, the objects, content and aims, the methods being used, discerning the relevant concept, literature review, the theoretical and practical value were all displayed elaborately in this part. Especially, the meaning and function of extracurricular activities and the unique value of the boarding-school extracurricular activities were given detailed explanations.Part Two:The Investigation and Presentation of the Situation and ProblemsThis part mainly showed the findings of the investigation on the extracurricular activities being enforced in those boarding schools, including the arrangements, content and structures of their extracurricular activities, the attitude of teachers and students to extracurricular activities, the expectation of boarding students to their boarding life. The findings indicated that the extracurricular activities have arranged orderly in the curricular menu of every class; the extracurricular activities have been being taken alternatively from several items, instead of being displaced by knowledge-oriented study; most of teachers and students knew of the positive role of extracurricular activities. However, there are also some unsatisfactory problems existing in the extracurricular activities, such as the monotonous content, the invalid organization and irresponsible organizer, unpractical arrangement and design, superficial usage in function.Part Three:Disclosing the Reasons of the Existing ProblemsThe author gave some analysis to the reasons of the existing problems through several aspects, such as the natural environment, people's outdated notion and thinking style, unsuitable or distempered system, unsustainably financial supply, and the shortage in tutors or teachers of activities.Part Four:Providing a Conception for Effective Extracurricular ActivitiesBased on the background of times, the regional features, and the students' expectations, the conception was designed, trying to give a little enlightenment or clues for the educational administrators or headmasters in reforming the extracurricular activities in those boarding schools in this city. The conception mainly focused on the guiding thought, the choice of content, the organization and enforcement, and the assessment of extracurricular activities. The above part mainly gave an internal construction on extracurricular activities itself. But this part expects to give some suggestions on guaranteeing the effectiveness of extracurricular activities through improving external conditions, such as employing professional teachers of extracurricular activities, increasing finance through more channels for the activities, establishing task-distributed system and assessment system for the activities, providing teachers and managers more access to be trained.
