In response to the trend that our country,province and city is appealing for developing students' core and comprehensive qualities and putting an emphasis on after-school service,this study focuses on two concepts,i.e.“junior boarding school” and “extracurricular activities”,and discusses the current situation and management measures of extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools based on a case study of L school in Shenzhen.The study applies the educational theories of “Education as Life”,“School as Society”,“Multiple Intelligences” and “Students' Three Societies and Important Interactive Others”,this thesis analyzes the correlation between the extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools and the school education,students' development and their family education respectively.By using the methods of literature review,case study,investigation,interview and observation,the researcher reviews the development of the studies on extracurricular activities and tries to analyze the following questions: “What is the current situation of the research on extracurricular activities?” “What is the current situation of extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools?” “Are there any problems with extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools?” “What are the causes of these problems?” “What needs to be paid attention to in the process of managing extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools?” The researcher analyzes the current situation,problems and corresponding causes of extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools,and lists several principles of focus on safety,moral education,students' age,temporal and spatial context.The researcher has developed interlocking procedures of managing extracurricular activities,i.e.“planning extracurricular activities”,“implementing extracurricular activities”,“observing extracurricular activities” and“reflecting on extracurricular activities”.Moreover,three parties involved in extracurricular activity management in junior boarding schools are mentioned and discussed.In the meantime,some practical suggestions on “designing and improving” “monitoring and supporting” and“tracking and evaluating” are also offered in the thesis.This study,guided by the relevant theories,has made reliable and effective achievements with the theme of “extracurricular activities in junior boarding schools”,and is also a scientific demonstration of the relevant theories conversely.Apart from that,the study is fully based on the spatial context,and has selected a unique junior boarding school for an in-depth research,which is more specific and pertinent.In this way,the research results could also be implications for similar areas,similar schools in terms of designing and implementing extracurricular activities.
