Research On The Motivation Mechanism In The Reformation Of University Governance

In recent years, some Chinese universities are carrying out the reformation of governance, as an attempt to optimize the university management system. Presently, the reformation of university governance is still in its infancy. The research on the motivation mechanism in the reformation of university governance will help to understand the aim of the reform and bring the reform into effect.Based on the organization theory concerning colleges and universities, and the theory of institutional innovation, this research focuses on the motivation mechanism of the reform in Zhejiang University. The motivation system of the reform consists of the motivation exterior, the motivation interior and the resistance to reform. The problems in the university management system and the characteristics of universities constitute the motivation from the university itself. The social demand of knowledge and technology, the advancement of science, national policies and advanced management experience of world-class universities constitute the motivation from the environment. While the dependence on the original institution, the anxiety about the lost of the benefits and the uncertainties about the reformation constitute the resistance to the reform. Besides, this paper compared the development of the reformation in Chinese universities, and proposed that the motivation mechanism in the reformation of university governance is a process. Finally, this paper looked forward to the futurity of the reformation of university governance in Chinese universities.
