Chinese traditional classics are the Chinese nation's cultural roots and spiritual nourishment, so it has become a common consensus to continue the educational tradition of reading and reciting classics. In this thesis, after the calm thinking on the so called traditional classics fad, the author looked into its rise and debate and summarized the effects and defects of classics reading and reciting in prime schools, and then made an analysis of its development in the secondary schools, and on this basis, examined the meaning of traditional classics reading.Their growing mentalities and learning abilities enable the students to understand the meaning of classics written by ancient sages and to digest the nutrition of ideas which will promote their own development. Thus, the second part of the thesis was to dissert the value of traditional classics reading and reciting in the secondary schools from the three following aspects:enhancing the language skills, cultivating the mind and carrying forward the Chinese traditional culture.In the third part, the emphasis was put on the effective ways of carrying out traditional classics reading and reciting in the secondary schools. They are as follows: establishing a platform for traditional classics reading and reciting through creating a sound educational environment including school, family and society; improving courses and text books to include the contents of traditional classics reading and reciting; employing a wide range of teaching resources to constantly increase the influence of the traditional classics reading and reciting, so as to let it become an interest or habit of the students.
