In recent years and along with deepening reforms of higher education, ever-growing expansion of education scale and strengthening of student consciousness, college student societies which is an voluntarily organized and governed organization built on students'common interest and desire to grow as useful students, advance rapidly for its openness, self-consciousness, interest, specialty and purposefulness. Strengthening and improving student societies, achieving its effective management and sound development not only adapts to urgent needs of reforming of higher education and prompting quality education but also protrudes itself as critical task of higher education talent cultivation and campus culture construction. Research on student societies in Chinese higher education may facilitate development of Chinese higher education reform, building of colorful, free and democratic college culture, and achieving higher education purposes. This thesis explores from different angles, putting in order related history and literature of higher education research, illustrating its definition and functional characteristics. The thesis also, by analyzing status quo and existing problems of Chinese college student societies, puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for healthy and sound development of it.
