The author, as a junior high school mathematics teacher, found that students generally showed poor interest in mathematics. This phenomenon has resulted in deficiency of teaching and learning. Therefore, it is one of the major tasks for junior high school mathematics teachers to improve the effectiveness of teaching by arousing students'interest, strengthening their learning ability and accordingly help them achieve better performance. Based on years of teaching practices, surveys of current learning situation and research on relevant academic literature, the author figured that the application of situations would highly improve the effectiveness of mathematics teaching in junior high school stage. The following conclusions have been drawn after the author summarized practical strategies of applying situational teaching in mathematics with concern to various contents.1.Application of situational teaching could arouse students'learning interest.2.Appropriate situations should be accordingly created in line with various contents.3.Influence of non-intellectual factors and the adoption of technology should be taken into consideration during situational teaching.The thesis would cover the following aspects:1.Related theoretical research;2.Implications of concepts;3.Effectiveness of strategies:Preconception and generate; Research on case studies; Comparison of various teaching methods; Research on Application Question; Influence of non-intellectual factors.4.Application of technology in situational teaching:Application of web courseware; Application of PPT; Application of Flash; Application of Geometer's Sketchpad.
