Basketball is a popular sport among junior school students,not only for fitness,but also for recreation and individual socialization.It is also a sport that does not require a lot of space or equipment and is easy to teach and compete in,which makes it ideal for school sports.The contextual approach is used to stimulate students' curiosity and to develop a habit of independent enquiry.By integrating students into the classroom in a predetermined context,it enhances students' interest in learning physical education,promotes their active participation in classroom teaching,deepens their understanding of theoretical knowledge,improves their motor skills and achieves better teaching results.Therefore,this thesis explores the advantages and shortcomings of applying the contextual teaching method to junior high school basketball teaching by applying the contextual teaching method to junior high school basketball teaching and providing new ideas for junior high school basketball teaching after analyzing and comparing the experimental data and combining the experimental process.This study used literature,experimental methods and expert interviews to analyse and summarize how the application of the contextual teaching method in junior high school basketball teaching would affect students' physical fitness,basketball skills,interest in learning physical education and aspects of affective performance and cooperation.The boys in the second class of the second year of the sixth middle school in Dalian Development Zone were selected as the control group and taught using the conventional teaching method;the boys in the fifth class of the second year of the middle school were selected as the experimental group and taught using the contextual teaching method.After 12 weeks of teaching experiments totalling 24 hours under strict experimental control,the following research results were obtained.In terms of physical fitness,after the experiment,the relevant test data of the two groups of students were compared,and it was found that there was no significant difference in test scores(P > 0.05).In terms of basketball skills,after the experiment,the basketball skills test data of the two groups of students were compared,and it was found that the test scores were significantly different(P < 0.05),and the average scores of the experimental group were significantly better than those of the control group.In terms of interest in physical education learning,there were significant differences between the two groups in understanding physical education,paying attention to physical education,autonomy and exploration(P < 0.05).The average scores of the experimental group were better than those of the control group in five dimensions except negative interest.In terms of affective performance and cooperative spirit,there were significant differences in the test data of each dimension between the two groups after the experiment(P < 0.01),and the test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group.The following conclusions were therefore drawn.(1)Applying the contextual teaching method in junior high school basketball teaching has no significant effect on improving students' physical fitness.(2)The application of contextual teaching method in junior high school basketball teaching is more conducive to improving students' basketball skill level.(3)It is proved that the application of contextual teaching method in junior high school basketball teaching is significantly helpful in improving students' interest in learning physical education.(4)The application of contextual teaching method in junior high school basketball teaching has a positive contribution to the development of students' affective performance and cooperation spirit.
