As a evaluation method, examination is widely applicated in the process of teaching. Teachers always judge students'study performance according to exam scores.Actually, to some extent, the level of scores indeed can reflect the amount of knowledge they aquire in the school,but it can't fully reflect students'abilities. As a natual diagnostics tool, examination contains more potential information which is worthy to further research.The classical education statistics and evaluation theories can help us understand the conditions of teaching and learning.However,it is so rough to evaluate students' study performance that the application of the theories provides limited effect in teaching and learning.In fact,the same scores may not imply the same knowledge structures and abilities.This information provided by the paper score is extremely limited.The author even think that the current school exam-oriented education, the strategy of a lot of homework, endless study burden on students are relevant to this simple rough evaluation essentially.In this thesis, the author put forward students'performance diagnosis though detailed evaluation and representation,which can reveals student'strengths and weaknesses.The author think that evaluation must serve for students'learning and further progressness.Based on the above viewpoints, the author design and develop a students'performace diagnostic system,through which examination scores are analysed in detail in order to dig up more educational value It provides students,teachers and school administrators different useful information in the form of prescription, which can improve teaching and learning. In this way, examination could totally play its role in detection, diagnosis, teaching and learning.
