Teaching assessment is the one that evaluates the whole teaching process in teachng through assessment of teaching implement, systematic collection and information processing, It is also a process to judge the educational achievements and values, which is a key point in teaching. Troditional method of Physical Education formally and purposly overstesses the importance of students'physical strength and skills, thus ignoring the development of their sports qualities. Such unified and formal assessment results in the problems in the present physical education. So it is most urgent that we should reform the assesement mode of the troditional physical education.Based on modern science, traditonal assessment of physical education meets the standards and efficiency, but drawbacks of it gradually emerge with people more aware of the modernism and the appearance of lattermodernism. Lattermodernism or post modernism developes based on the review and criticism of modernism. It oversteps and rectifies modernism for the purpose of breaking through tradition, simplicity and ossification. The mode of thinking of lattermodemism affects all fields in society. Educationists, who originally adopted wait-and-see attitudes, begain to show interest in lattermodernism. They try to instill new vitality into teaching research, and make the teaching assessment take on a new look with the lattermodernism applied.This paper tries to clarify the relationship between lattermodernism and physical education from the view of the postmodernism of physical education at institutions of higher learning, so present situation of physical education at institutions of higher learning can be reviewed. Thus postmodernism may be used for referrence in teaching assessment. In this way we can better analyse, think deeply and intepret teaching assessment so that we can open up a new way of teaching assessmen in P.E through the position, viewpoint and ways of postmodernism. This paper analyses the ideologies of dozones of educationists in histroy, and studies their methodologies and their assessment. It also compares foreign assessment with ours, expecting that guided by postmodernism, a new, creative and diversified P.E mode will come out.What this paper mainly studies is that the author first clarifies the relationship between postmodernism and physical education, the key point of which is to explore the enlightment to teaching assessment brought by postmodernism. It includes emphsizing the integration of both quantity and quality while removing the standard of uinfication, stressing individual disparity while diminishing outside evaluation, stressing self-assessment while diminishing comprehensive assessment, and stessing more developing assessment. With postmodernism, the assessment in P.E varies from student to student, from teacher to teacher. It needs interaction among students so that teaching assessment with the characteristics of individualism and diversification can be formed. Therefore, the author believes that the features of postmodernism and its diversified teaching assessment are as the follows, none-standard individual evaluation, self-assessment with teaching according to different natural ability, assessment with equal dialogue but without outside interference, strenthening diversified assessment driven by functions, stressing constant reviewing and criticizing in teaching assessment.
