A Study On Sustainable Development Of Independent Institute In Guangdong Province

An Independent College is a new kind of school mode with Chinese characteristics, which effectively combines high-quality educational resources of public universities and social capital into one. It is a product of popularization of China's Higher Education. In turn, it accelerates and promotes the popularization of higher education. Sustainable Development of Independent Institute is a study on how to achieve its last development through the introduction of concepts and principles about sustainable development, that is, what are in line with the principles of sustainable development and what are not conducive to it.Since the policy of reform and opening up in 1980s, there are great achievements about China's economy. Significant expansion of higher education is coming with economy growth. But public universities can not alone satisfy people with their desire of higher education by the way of expansion. It is necessary for Chinese higher education to have a reform. The orientation of the higher education is:expansion of universities and appearance of private schools. The emergence of Independent Institute is just consistent with the trend of reform.In author's opinions, in order to achieve sustainable development, Independent Institutes of Guangdong Province should start the following areas:1, Establish a scientific, efficient and democratic system of the board of directors, and achieve effective separation between ownership and management,and thus to overcome the defect of "family management" model; 2, Seize the opportunities of graduate enrollment to construct and stabilize qualified faculty; 3, Local governments should try to improve the living environment of Independent Colleges through legislation, concerned policies, laws and regulations about private education; 4,Make an good effort to enhance school's strength, and to diversify funding sources.In addition to theoretical studies, the article also summarizes experience from American and Japanese private universities, and draw on the success experience from Sontan College of Guangzhou University. Finally, it tries to put forward the way and prospects to sustainable development.
