Present Situation And Tentative: A Study On Social Stratification And Its Impact On Equality In Higher Education

The paper introduces the social stratification and its related concept from the view of social stratification. On the base of this, this paper analyses the issues of today's social stratification in china and their impact on higher education. There are differences in the socio-economic dimension, the cultural dimension and the professional dimension. Among them, the main differences of social stratification in the socio-economic dimension reflect in the rich-poor divide between the urban and rural residents, the regional divide between rich and poor, the rich-poor divide between the different industries. The main differences of social stratification in the cultural dimension reflect in the difference in the possession of information resourses and the difference in the allocation of cultural resourses. The main differences of social stratification in the professional dimesion reflect in the types and status of employment and so on. Social stratification in china has a great effect on higher education: impact higher education opportunities'distribution, impact higher education choices of students, impact possession of cultural resources of students, impact the determination of values and the students impact the process of students'abilities.According to China's national conditions and characteristics of social structure, this paper believes that under the conditions of social stratification in our country the equality in higher education should adhere to the following six principles: the principle of equality, the principle of development, the principle of efficiency, the principle of differential treatment, the principle of attention of the disadvantaged, the principle of compensatory and reverse discrimination. Under the conditions of social stratification in our country the achievement of the equality in higher education includes: allocate educational resources rationally, enhance the integration between classes, establish the compensation system of the disadvantaged groups in higher education.Social stratification's impact on the equality in higher education is complex .This paper trys to undermine social stratification's negative impact on the equality in higher education and to achieve the equality in higher education to the highest degree, and to build a harmonious, fair and just social environment. Finally, we want to contribute the progress of the whole society.
