Since entry into the twenty-first century, against the background of building an innovation-oriented country and high-level universities , China's colleges and universities have begun education reform centered on "discipline building". "Discipline" has become a widespread word in universities and higher education sectors. Based on an introduction of preliminary knowledge of"university disciplines"this paper comprehensively analyzed its generation, including what is university disciplines generation";"how does it proceed"; and"what's strategies of its generation".There are five parts in this article. Part One: Introduction, which mainly covers the background and significance of this study and the researching methods and approach to be used in this article .Part Two: Disciplines'definition and relevant concepts, which begins with a multi-dimensional analysis of the meaning of discipline, then using a structure approach for a deeper understanding of the elements and functions of disciplines. Part Three: Further analysis of the generation of disciplines, centering on the ways by which disciplines generate and the characteristics that signify a successful accomplishment .Part Four: A case study of the generation of the Xiamen University's Higher Education discipline, which first analyses the nature of higher education in general , then proceeds to the generation process of the Xiamen University's Higher Education discipline, and finally comes to some conclusions which further confirm what's said in Part Three. Part Five: Corresponding strategies to take, which are based on previous discussions in this article and an analysis of an example.
