The academic level of disciplines is fundamentally demonstrating the competence of an academic institute, that is, "No superior standard of discipline, no reputation around for a university". However, specific program is an independent organ in the university. It undertakes external and internal existing challenges, therefore, how to keep a continual competitive superiority and develop petential are given greater concerns on the field of discipline study.Core competence theory is applied to the involvement of global competence and the self-development in industries. The success of a number of enterprises had significantly argud this theory true and with practicability. Base on this consideration, we proposed that the methodology of core competence and successful experience will be workable to instruct the discipline of the university.We are here concentrating on the central topic on the theory of core competence of university disciplines and how to build up it. Combining the considerations of the theory of core competence and the essence of disciplines, we study the concepts, peculiarities and elements of core competence in a university diicipline so as to develop the theory of the core competence in university discipline. Base on the theoretical analysis, we step up to study the methodology to cultivate the core competence in a discipline. With the purpose to find solutions for internal problems and external challenges and to obtain academic competitive superiority to keep standing highly rated, a number of practical operations and measures, including intensive endeavors on future development plan, greater emphasis on the academic personnel, introduction of learning organization, establishing colleague among dsicipline and strengening the potential for originality, are investigated in a wide range so as to shape the core competence in university discipline.
