Self-esteem is a hot subject which is always studied by psychologists home and aboard. It is considered a variable of personality which can largely predict life changes and emotions. As a specific area in self-esteem - physical self-esteem, which is closely related with the social evaluation of individual sense of self-satisfied or dissatisfied. In the field of exercise psychology, physical self-esteem has often been used to detect the psychological effectiveness of post-exercise hypothesis. It can be a means of predicting people's participation in physical exercise, which is significant to the study of people's participation in the psychological effectiveness of physical exercise and psychological antecedents. The motivation of exercise is the direct cause of exercise behavior produced by individuals.It is generated on the basis of the exercise demands from people.Different motivations of exercise will cause different behaviors.Middle-aged teachers in colleges are the backbones in the team of college teachers who will undertake the important task of cultivating high-leveled talents. In recent years, many surveys found that the middle-aged people aer minoritis in sports area, so the sports concept and physical exercise is not optimistic in the middle-aged. Paying attention to the individual differences of middle-aged teachers in physical self-esteem and exploring the impact from physical training on the relationship between motives of exercise and physical self-esteem, will have a certain value of reference to further improve the quality of life and health status of middle-aged teachers.This reserch is compiled by Fox and others experts and later revised and developed by Xu xia and Yao jiaxin with Physical self-perception profile(SPSS) and MPAM-R compiled by Frederick and Ryan , adding a self-edited physical training inventory ,which is used as a tool to investigate 417 middle-aged teachers whose ages are between 45-59 from universities in Henan Province. Questionnaire reliability and validity is high with the application SPSS13.0 statistical package for data analysis.The conclusions are as follows:(1) There is no difference on gender for the motivation of the middle-aged teachers but significant difference exists in ages and titles.(2) The motivations of middle-aged teachers are significantly related to exercise intensity, exercise frequency and exercise time, among which is the fun of exercise having the greatest impact on the exercise intensity. The decisive factor in motivation is the frequency of exercise and the motivation of pleasure has a notable influence on the exercise time each time.(3) Different ages of middle-aged teachers have significant differences on physical self-esteem in the body-esteem and physical attractiveness dimension. Different titles of middle-aged teachers in physical self-worth, physical attractiveness, have significant differences. The physical exercise on physical self-esteem affects more men than women.(4) Through regression analysis we know that physical exercise is the main factor to determine the intensity; physical self-esteem has the greatest impact on the frequency of physical activity; physical fitness and exercise time was a negative linear relationship, that is to say , the lower the level of physical fitness, the longer time the exerciser maintains.In a word,I submit the following proposals:(1) Middle-aged teachers in colleges and universitie must be suggested to master more physical activity knowledge, enhance their awareness of physical activity, take physical exercise as an important way to improve the quality of life , so as to stimulate the enthusiasm of the exercise; thereby improve the physical activity in middle-aged teachers in physical self-esteem.(2)Colleges and universities are recommended that while promoting the healthy lifestyles and physical activity, we should fully concern about the health of middle-aged teachers, and organize more middle-aged teachers to carry out the various physical exercise activities.(3) Middle-aged teachers are proposed to exercise three or more times per week, exercise time 30-60 minutes,participate in sports moderately and appropriately,achieve physical fitness at the same time, improve the physical activity in middle-aged teachers in motives of exercise and physical self-esteem.
