For the good interaction between American postgraduate education and development of social economy, U.S. economy keeps increasingly growth. Based on the viewpoint of System theory, function depends on structure. Reasonable structure made American postgraduate education plays a big role in economic development. To analyze the structure of American postgraduate education can not only helps to deepen the understanding of the degree system, further more, it will bring an example for Chinese postgraduate education on how to keep pace with social economic development through summarised the successful experience of the structure layout on American postgraduate education.Inspect the dynamic evolution of American postgraduate education, we can find that the demand of economic development is always the guidance to accelerate the structure of American postgraduate education adjustment, and the postgraduate education invariably serves the social economy, they supplement and promote each other. Then, analyze the the structure of American postgraduate education, can be summed up the following characteristics:the hierarchical structure is a system with two orientations and three levels, composed mainly of master level, it has the clear position and appropriate proportion of each level. Subject structure keeps the proportion of each subject consists with economic structure and designs complete majors. Regional structure can make development scale of postgraduate education adapts to district economic feature; every state has degree conferring site and covers educational resources in a comprehensive way.According to the experience of American, we can give some suggestion for our country as follows:Firstly, establishing the hierarchical structure with Chinese characteristic which can satisfy the requirement for multi-level talents. Secondly, subject structure adjustment should base on economic development needs. Finally, regional distribution of postgraduate education aims at reducing the area difference.
