In this thesis, various research methods including documentation, questionnaire, interview and mathematical statistics are adopted. The data derived from the physical health tests, which were conducted in 2008 in four high vocational colleges located in Changzhou, are selected as the research object. The students in four vocational colleges who suffer from obesity are taken by sampling as the subjects of intervention test. The thesis mainly examines the current situation, contributing factors and the effect of long-term exercise intervention on the students.1. Current situation of obesity for students in vocational colleges: BMI (Body Mass Index) distribution for the students in vocational colleges proves relatively reasonable and it is, as a whole, in good condition. Students, who suffer from overweight or obesity account for 8.23% of the total number. The weight of students in vocational colleges is the crucial element which determines the characteristic of their body shapes and overweight has become the main reason which leads to their obesity. What's more, cardio respiratory function and sports ability level of overweight students need to be improved.2. The major causes of obesity in students in vocational colleges are the lack of sufficient understanding of their own problem and the absence of proper sports and diet. Among these, lack of exercises is the most influential factor. Overweight students in vocational colleges have little physical exercises or have exercises with very low frequency and intensity.3. After intervention, students'weight, BMI index, body shape, cardio respiratory function and sports ability are all improved appreciably. Therefore, long-term sports intervention on overweight students proves to be effective. It is also feasible in enhancing the BMI index of overweight students in vocational colleges.
