Liang Qichao once figured that Analects of Confucius was the fountainhead of Chinese thoughts over two thousand years. As an eternal classic in Confucianism, Analects of Confucius keeps up with the boom of sinology in modern society and goes into the high schools'classrooms. The elective course of Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius shows the great respect and inheritance of Chinese education for national culture and national spirit. In the latter half of 2006, the five kinds of textbooks of Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius in mainland have been complied and put into use. This is the first time for mainland to try to compile elective textbooks on culture treatise. Based on the successful experience of Chinese Standards for Senior Middle School (experimental) and Taiwan type of"Basic Teaching Materials on Chinese national culture", this paper would thoroughly analyze the current status of study and compilation on Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius with broad mind.Up to now, five kinds of textbooks of the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius have been compiled including The Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius published by Language and Literature Publishing House, The Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius and Mencius by Shandong People's Publishing House,The Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius by Guangdong Education Publishing House, Readings in the PRE-QIN Phlosophers by the People's Education Publishing House,and The Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius and Mencius by Jiangsu Education Publishing House. This paper respectively introduces the five kinds of textbooks of the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius and evaluates them in the term of the classification and teaching material compilation. In the process of evaluation, the author of this paper would state five points derived from the textbook of Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius.As to the aforementioned five problems, this paper firstly discusses the status and significance of Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius, and then studies the influence of Confucius'thoughts in the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius on middle school students. Analects of Confucius can help the self-cultivation of middle school students,teach students how to behave themselves and how to study. What is more, it can also have great effect on students'soul. But in terms of the unfavourable side of nation psychology's construction, the hidden negative factors of the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius could have a negative effect on students'value orientation and character formation. It is also the reason that many scholars argue against teen-agers reading the Confucian classics. Secondly , this paper discusses the necessity and approaches of the Confucianism's modernization in the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius. At last, this paper serves three advices on the textbook of the Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius referring to the advice on the aim of textbook compilation, the classification and selective standard of Analects of Confucius's, and the idea on textbook compilation. In terms of the idea on textbook compilation, the textbook of Selected Reading of Analects of Confucius should be modern and have close correlation with life; it should reflect the features of our age and have flexible system and distinguishing features; it should also advocate adopting up to date technology which is helpful for it to keep up with the information-based society.
