| Higher education and the development of discipline could not live without the development of teachers, especially the academic profession of teachers. Researches in this area tried to develop reasonable solution referred to professional promotion, such as factorial analysis of professional exchange, employment and promotion of teachers, analysis of paradox about academic position, and professional attraction. However, as for teacher themselves, the critical breakthrough should start from the question "how". That is, how to transfer the factors existed in current environment, how to make full use of it, how to break the wall of tradition, how to promote new academic points, and how to rebuild the model of our discipline. The author held the point that from the perspective of individual development in academic profession, which could look deeper into the area.In the study, points are put mainly on Xu-lu Chen, generalizing to a concept-"the process of metabolism". Through reference, including published papers, books and collectives of conversation, it described the process of Xu-lu's profession, exploring the way he understood environment, formed his own academic point, gathered related information, and finally achieved success, that again was, the process of "metabolism". There were two lines all through this study, time line and the metabolism of academic profession line. The essay combined his life with the professional experience, and divided it into four parts.In the 1st chapter, the basic factors that may influence Xu-lu's professional choice were discussed, including his family, the'environment, personal tendency, related professional development and popular thoughts.In the 2nd chapter, after Chinese government was established, Xu-lu started to define his research field on Chinese modern history, building up his academic energy between administration and academic activities.In the 3rd chapter, Xu-lu earned his experience in criticism and severe pressure during the Cultural Revolution. It could be seen as an accumulation of academic thoughts over this period.In the 4th chapter, it described the most important ten years for Xu-lu, his systematic points on modern history has been going through a practical process of "metabolism" through accumulation, thought, introspection, and courage to execute. It relied on the opportunities coming with the economic opening, and the political, economical, educational and technical development after. |
